Just like any other computer system, web hosting server platforms require a range of software to be able to operate effectively and provide the services our clients require. In the case of Net Logistics' servers, this involves the use of virtualization technology combined with various operating systems, control panel packages and other applications. Following is a brief overview of the software most often used in the Net Logistics hosting environment:

• Virtualization Technology: Virtuozzo. A critical component in virtually all of our systems, Parallels' ® Virtuozzo empowers an extremely wide range of Net Logistics systems and services. As a virtualization system, Virtuozzo effectively creates one or more operating-system instance "containers" on a single physical server. Applied in the context of our server infrastructure, Virtuozzo enables us to offer VPS and DDS services, provides us with greater support efficiency, and assists us in implementing extremely-high-resolution backup solutions in mission-critical environments.
  
  
• Operating Systems: CentOS. An enterprise-grade Linux distribution, CentOS is the underlying OS that powers many of our server platforms. As an eminently flexible OS architecture, CentOS empowers both traditional LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP-Perl-Python) installations, as well as cutting-edge web application systems using, for example, the most recent versions of MySQL and Ruby on Rails.
  
  Microsoft Windows. The advanced, designed-for-internet-servers version of the most popular computer operating system, Microsoft Windows Enterprise enables us to provide a robust, reliable architecture for Windows-based hosting requirements. Also supported are related Microsoft technologies, such as .NET and Microsoft SQL Server.
  
  
• Control Panel: Parallels Plesk. Designed to assist in web hosting account (and server) management, Plesk is a sophisticated control panel technology used on many of our platforms. It works particularly well with Virtuozzo, given that both products are produced by the same company, Parallels, and are hence designed to work together.
  
  cPanel / cPanel/WHM. Similar to Plesk, cPanel and cPanel/WHM are control panel technologies with the former designed for hosting accounts and the latter designed for reseller, VPS and dedicated platforms. Given its long-standing status as one of the leading control panel technologies, it is very widely used by our client base.
  
  
• Control Panel Extension: Fantastico. An add-on to cPanel, Fantastico is referred to as an application installer. Simply, it makes the task of installing a very wide range of web applications (from blogs to survey management systems) quite literally a-click-or-two process, thus enabling the rapid creation of a range of custom web sites and services.
  
  
• Mail Server: SmarterMail. We utilize SmarterMail 5.x -- a complete mail server that operates as a replacement for Microsoft Exchange -- on all of our Windows shared and reseller packages (and make it available as an option on VPS and Dedicated). SmarterMail significantly improves how our Windows servers handle e-mail, offering impressive antispam, antivirus and security features; advanced synchronization with Microsoft Outlook; integrated support for smartphones including BlackBerry, iPhone and Windows Mobile devices; and much more.
